Most of us don't realize how much stress is building up in our systems until we suddenly feel overwhelmed. At other times, stressful events may seem to happen one after the other, and you may go from feeling calm to completely overwhelmed with surprising speed. As we all know, prolonged stress have a huge impact on our state of mind, relationships and overall well-being, where it can show itself in a myriad of ways! It is therefore important to be able to relax your mind and body, not only for the sake of stress reduction, but also for a lesser known reason: consistently high stress-levels tend to leave an imprint on your nervous system, causing it to be fired up into overdrive faster and faster over time. In other words, it can cause a “habitual stress-reaction” which, like all habits, tend to become more and more difficult to break as time goes by. Here are five easy ways that you can apply on a daily basis to regain your calm and retrain your nervous system: 1. Exercise.. helps you blow off steam and releases endorphins. 2. Take a breath! You can feel better right away by breathing deeper. Getting more oxygen into your body is a wonderful way to release physical tension. 3. Visualized meditation can be used to restore peace of mind and can relax you physically as well as mentally. With practice, you can easily access your "happy place" and quickly feel more calm when stressed. 4. Reframe your situation Sometimes we intensify our experience of stressful situations by the way we look at them. If you can look at your situation differently, in that you shift your awareness to the opportunities for growth that are being presented to you, you can reduce your stress levels. 5. Try progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) With this technique you progressively tense and release all of your muscle groups, leaving your body feeling more relaxed afterward. When you’re in a state of calm you’re also in a much better position to address whatever stressful situations you are experiencing (read: bonus!). But sometimes it seems that our stress levels have gone beyond the threshold of where we are still able to do something about it! Then it might feel that the calming effect of anything we do only lasts a very short while, before stress and overwhelm creeps in again. This is called Overwhelm. If you can relate to the feeling of being above your threshold of stress, and find it difficult to relax completely, this coming Friday’s session will be just the thing for you! I will offer a distant group session to help you get below this threshold of overwhelm. In other words, a reset/reboot for your system! I will work on reducing overall stress levels so that you feel more clear and centered in yourself and thus less affected by stressful situations in your life. Apart from lowering stress and tension, this session will also aim to increase firstly your willingness (or capacity!) to incorporate daily stress-relieving methods like meditation, and secondly to enhance the effectiveness of such methods. Because sometimes, we just need to get by with a little help from our friends! ;) As great transformative power lies in healing in numbers - I see that time and again when doing group distant sessions! So.. say no to overwhelm and join us this coming Friday for the total reboot “nerve-calming” session, from wherever you are! Jani xx
